Formed by Terry Jacks in 1967 with Susan Jacks and members Craig McCaw on guitar and sitar as well as Satwant Singh on tablas, they came into the music scene with a bang and within a few years had the number 1 song in Canada (#2 in the USA) with Which way you going Billy?
It earned the group a combined total of four 1970 Gold Leaf (pre-Juno) Awards for best performance, best production, most popular song and most sales for a single. It was a certified Gold 45 for sales of more than 1 million U.S. copies and went on to sell a total of more than 3½ million worldwide. They also Charted with hits such as That's Where I Went Wrong, Where Evil Grows, Good Friends and Beyond the clouds. Leaders in World Music , their distinctive sound came from a mix of sitar and tabla combined with pop music, along with brilliant writing and production by Terry Jacks and emotionally driven singing by the stunning Susan Jacks.
